My gym hydration is very simple:
- Two mugs of Sugarless Black Coffee an hour before lifting weights
- A litre of salty water during the gym session
Salty water supplies enough water and salt the brain, nerves and muscles need to function optimally
and replace the water and salt I lose in sweat.
The coffee has water and caffeine.
Caffeine is a nootropic that helps the brain function without feeling fatigued.
You’ll never see me take coffee alone or plain water.
These two will make you urinate a lot and lose valuable sodium ions, leading to hyponatremia.
Salt is very important.
It does not cause hypertension.
If you take too much, your kidneys excrete more of it, causing the balance you need.
Actually, it is sodium ions that make your blood vessels more elastic, giving you better blood flow to the brain, muscles and your heart.
Sugarless Black Tea can replace coffee.
I drink another litre or two of water in salted water, coffee and bone soup after the gym
This makes my total daily intake about 3-4½ litres of hydration.
